CONSTRUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Here we design and execute high-quality buildings, outdoor spaces and interiors that contribute to local development, such as buildings for education, sanitation, social purposes and buildings that explore sustainable construction methods. The programme supports development organisations at home and abroad with architectural services provided by our skilled volunteer teams.
Write us at info@aug.ngo if you are interested in exploring a project collaboration.

Urban Life
Cities in the Global South are growing rapidly and there are major challenges with slums, access to housing, health and mobility. In this programme, we work with local partners on strategic development projects such as land rights, food security and sanitation for people living in slums. Along the way, we build knowledge about urban planning, policy frameworks and housing finance, as well as about social structures and decision-making processes in slums.
KNOWLEDGE & COMMUNICATION
Through our professional/social events such as Evenings Without Borders, Project Nights, lectures, teaching and participation in fairs, festivals etc. we focus on development issues where architecture and planning can make a difference. We strive to support and further develop the architectural profession as a socially conscious and responsible profession.

COLLABORATION
If you have a development project involving construction or planning, we can offer voluntary architectural assistance to ensure a high-quality building can be realized.
We have extensive experience in needs assessment and dialogue with local partner organizations, and we can draw on a wide range of architectural and construction skills among our active members.
Our services follow a flexible three-step model, from initial needs assessment and sketching, to program development, detailed design and budgeting, and finally to design assistance and construction management.
We take responsibility for leading the project from start to finish in close collaboration with you and your local partners.

FIRST CONTACT
We start the process by establishing a dialogue and relationship with a local partner – be it a local organization, NGO or municipality – to gain a common understanding of the context, identify needs and ensure a shared vision for the project. Based on this dialog, we scope the project and draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
PROJECT CONTENT
An interdisciplinary team is put together, combining the architectural expertise of AUG with knowledge from local partners. The team can consist of architects, engineers, community representatives and professionals relevant to the content and scope of the project.
DESIGN AND ENGAGEMENT
Through joint design workshops, site analysis and dialog with the local community, we jointly develop a concept that reflects local culture, climate and needs. Local visits ensure that the design is rooted in the specific conditions and is based on a participatory and shared process.
FUNDRAISING
With a clear project vision, we secure funding through foundations, donations and institutional partnerships, emphasizing transparency and sustainability throughout the financial process.
LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS
We prioritize working with local craftsmen, contractors and construction workers to strengthen local skills, support the local economy and integrate site-specific knowledge into the construction process. This phase also includes further development of the design and preparation of construction details.
CONSTRUCTION
In the final phase, the project is built with close professional supervision and active community involvement, ensuring high quality, robustness and long-term ownership by local stakeholders. The local partners are responsible for the management and execution of the project, while AUG performs quality assurance.
DISSEMINATION
AUG conducts internal evaluations and reflections based on the project and collaboration to ensure that continuous learning is integrated into our work processes. Knowledge is disseminated internally in the organization through reporting and presentations of the project.
